Polynucleotides, also known as PN and PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide), are highly purified DNA fragments derived from salmon or trout. They are highly biocompatible and biodegradable, working at cellular level to repair tissue and reset skin quality from within.

Rather than filling or plumping, polynucleotides biostimulate. They activate fibroblasts to produce type I collagen and elastin, rebuild the extracellular matrix, and provide a substrate for DNA repair and synthesis. Their strongly hydrophilic structure binds water deep in the dermis for lasting hydration.

They are also powerfully anti inflammatory and antioxidant, scavenging free radicals, while PDRN activates the adenosine A2A receptor to drive healing. The result is progressive improvement in skin quality, tone, firmness and luminosity.

At Southdowns we use the leading medical grade ranges. Plinest from Mastelli, the original trout derived PN. Nucleofil for skin quality and laxity. And Vitaran, a CE marked PN at 20mg/ml (2%), one of the highest concentrations available for the under eye area, with Vitaran Eyes and Vitaran I for the periocular region and face, and Vitaran II for body and scalp.

Are polynucleotides safe?

Polynucleotides have an excellent safety profile and a strong body of clinical evidence behind them. They are highly purified, highly biocompatible and fully biodegradable, and are not derived from mammals, making them suitable for most clients. As with every injectable, a full consultation and medical history review is carried out before treatment.

How many treatments are needed?

A typical initial course is 2 to 3 sessions spaced around a month apart, followed by maintenance as needed. The exact protocol depends on the concern and the area being treated. Nicola will advise the most appropriate plan at your consultation.

Can polynucleotides be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Polynucleotides combine well with other treatments and are frequently paired with Profhilo, anti wrinkle injections, SkinPen microneedling and chemical peels for synergistic results. Nicola will advise the optimal sequencing at your consultation.

Is there downtime?

Polynucleotide injections involve minimal downtime. You may notice mild redness, slight swelling at injection points, or small papules that settle within a few hours to a day. Bruising is possible but uncommon. Most clients return to normal activities immediately or the following day.
